Main Line NAMI Events and News

Our new NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group meets weekly on Tuesday evenings. This is a free, peer support group for adults living with mental illness, run and led by NAMI-trained facilitators. You will gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others in a confidential setting. By sharing your experiences, you can gain hope and you can develop relationships with a group dedicated to productive discussion. Our Parent Peer Support Group meets on Wednesday nights from 6:45-8:15 p.m. for parents with a middle or high school child who is challenged with mental health symptoms.  The peer support group is designed to be a safe, confidential place to share your experiences and learn from others. The group is facilitated by Nancy Dever and Debbie Gillespie and will be held at Wayne Presbyterian Church, Room 207, 125 E. Lancaster Ave, Wayne. Main Line NAMI on the Move: Stepping Out for Mental Health Awareness will be on Saturday, October 13 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore.  Registration and a mental health resources fair will begin at 8:30 a.m., the program will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 10 a.m.  Please click here for more information and to register.

Main Line NAMI Workshop, “When and How to Set Limits When a Loved One Has a Mental Disorder” will take place on Sunday, October 21, from 2-4 p.m. at Ardmore Presbyterian Church.  This workshop will include advice on when and how to set limits and provide opportunities to practice these skills. Presenter Edie Mannion, LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), is the co-founder and manager of the Training and Education Center at Mental Health Partnerships, a private therapist and consultant specializing in serious mental health disorders, and a family member with lived experience.

Voter registration deadline is Tuesday, October 9. To register to vote, go to You may also determine if you are registered to vote and the location where you vote by visiting the site. If you have moved since the last election, you must register in your new voting precinct to be eligible to vote. You may vote by absentee ballot if you are unable to make it to the polls because of illness, disability or if you will be out of your municipality on Election Day.

Magellan will be hosting a Member Advisory Work Group for family members or individuals that receive services. Specifically, Magellan is looking for feedback on Psychiatric Advance Directives, the Member Satisfaction Survey and the New Complaints and Grievances policy. The work group will be held on October 26 from 10:00 am- 12:00 pm at the Willow Grove Giant, 315 N York Rd, Willow Grove. The Pennsylvania Mental Health and Wellness Conference “Stronger Together” will be held May 20- 21, 2019 in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. The event is organized by NAMI Keystone, the Mental Health Association of Pennsylvania and PA Mental Health Consumer Association and it aims to unite peers, family members, advocates and professionals for a one-of-a-kind statewide mental health event.
